Folks – I just received an email from Libby Cochrane about her sister, Lisa. She is most likely having abdominal surgery tomorrow at St. Joseph hospital to remove a mass that has been causing a great deal of pain over the last month or so. They’re not sure what it is yet, but please be in prayer for her and family.
Also – be praying for our teens as they attend the Word of Life Superbowl outreach this Fri/Sat. There are usually several thousand teens that hear the gospel presented and have a great time of fun and fellowship. Steve and I will be taking them. On another note – over 25 jr high teens attended our youth outreach can drive for the Britton CARE Center last night! They had a great time together. Thanks to Steve Wright for helping to organize that.
Also – pray for the men’s and ladies groups that are forming. The men’s group meets on Tuesday @ 6pm at Dave Waynicks house (181 Rose St in Britton). See Dave or Steve Wright for details. The ladies are meeting on Monday mornings at 10:30am and also on Tuesday evenings. See Dana Hendrickson for more details.
We are receiving a special mission’s offering over the next two Sundays to help out and encourage our active missionaries. The mission’s committee would like to give each of our active missionaries a Christmas gift of $75 if possible. Please mark your gift ‘special missions’ and place it in the offering plate or give to Stacie McMullen (our treasurer). See Pastor Bob if you would like to give to this project by credit/debit card.
Finally, we will be observing the International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church this Sunday (Nov. 11th). We will be watching a short video about those who suffer greatly for their faith in ways we can’t imagine. They ask only for prayer and Bibles.
Looking forward to seeing each of you on Sunday! Please come early for Sunday School – you’ll be glad you did!
Pastor Bob
P.S. Here’s a story to help us remember that honesty is the best policy…
“Laura offered to bake a cake for the church ladies' group bake sale, but she forgot to do it until the last minute. She baked an angel food cake and when she took it from the oven, the center had dropped flat. She said, "Oh dear, there's no time to bake another cake." So, she looked around the house for something to build up the center of the cake. Alice found it in the bathroom ... a roll of toilet paper. She plunked it in and covered it with icing. The finished product looked beautiful, so she rushed it to the church. Before she left the house, Laura had given her daughter some money and specific instructions to be at the bake sale the minute it opened, and to buy that cake and bring it home. When her daughter arrived at the sale, the attractive cake had already been sold. Laura was beside herself.
The next day, Laura was invited to a friend's home for a scrapbook party that afternoon. After the party, a fancy lunch was served, and to her horror, the cake in question was presented for dessert. When Laura saw the cake, she started to get out of her chair to rush into the kitchen to tell her friend all about it. But before she could get to her feet, one of the other ladies said, "What a beautiful cake!"
Laura sat back in her chair when she heard the hostess (who was a prominent church member) say. "Thank you, I baked it myself."
