Partial Birth Abortion Ban Finally Headed to Gov. Granholm After passage in the Michigan House and Senate, the Michigan partial birth abortion ban is now heading to Governor Jennifer Granholm's desk. Once it formally reaches her desk, Governor Granholm will have 14 days to either sign it, veto it, or allow it to take effect without her signature. Prior to the bill being enrolled, RLM President Barbara Listing sent a formal letter to the Governor inviting her to discuss the bill. But the Governor declined to meet with RLM. To date, all the statements coming from the Governor's office have been that she will veto the bill. Our attention must be focused on lobbying Governor Granholm to either sign the bill or allow it to take effect without her signature. Governor Granholm is the only thing standing in the way of a Michigan ban on partial birth abortion. ACTION ITEM: Contact the Governor and tell her to, "Uphold the wishes of the vast majority of Michigan citizens - Give Michigan the ban on partial birth abortion it has long sought to enact." Governor Jennifer M. Granholm |
